According to a witness, everything happened on Fajã d'Água beach when the victim, who went by the name Benilda Montrond, went to save her drowning daughter, however, she managed to help the child, but due to the strong current she ended up drowning. and lose your life.
“We were on a staircase near the beach and suddenly a wave came and swept the girl into the sea, where she began to drown. Soon Benilda also fell into the water and managed to save her daughter, but she was unable to climb the rock because she was dragged by the current”, he reported, highlighting that the victim did everything she could to get out of the water, but was unable to do so.
According to the same source, he tried to look for help, but due to the roughness of the sea, no one dared to enter the water to help.
Born in São Filipe, Fogo, Benilda Montrond, lived in the United States and is on vacation in Cape Verde, having left behind three minor children.
Speaking to the media, the Brava Health Delegate, Hélder Pires, highlighted that at 2:30 pm they were notified by the local Civil Protection, to collect a female body that had drowned on the beach of Fajã d´Água .
“When we arrived at the scene, we found a body, identified as a woman apparently in her thirties, light in color. We brought the body to the police station where we carried out a slightly more detailed inspection and based on thanatological data on the corpse, we found that the cause of death was drowning”, he informed.
