Brava: New Year's Eve took place normally and without major incidents – authorities

The authorities in Brave today ensured that the New Year's Eve party took place as normal and "without any occurrence of highlights", on the 31st of December and 1st of January.

Speaking to Inforpress, the commander of the Police Station of the island, Higor Almeida, guaranteed that during those two days, as well as in the others, his team complied with the operation plan, but no case was registered.

Likewise, in contact with the doctor Júlio Barros, Brava's Health Officer, he also confirmed that they had not had any cases of enhancement, as a result of the festive activities, stating that "everything went perfectly normally", adding that there was also no case of birth registered in the hospital.

In a round made to the leaders of some groups that celebrated the end of the year, both made a “positive” balance, highlighting the climate of peace, harmony that reigned during the night and the fraternization that existed between people.

Unlike other islands or some municipalities, on Brava there is no practice of carrying out activities of a public nature, but rather the tradition of celebrating in groups, at your choice.

Thus, in Furna there were four groups, in Vila de Nova Sintra there were three options, in Cova Rodela there were also two groups and two in Mato.

The Renascer group from Mato and the two from Cova Rodela were the only ones that managed to keep the tradition, in which the party was made with violinists and players.

Contacted, the leader of the group Renascer João Louro explained that on the island the parties have always been animated with traditional instruments, with the exception of meal times when they use sound equipment, or for some rest for the players.

But, he lamented, this tradition is slowly being lost due to the lack of players and also due to the high price that the few players that still exist are charging.

In their group, the same source added that more than 120 people participated, including emigrants who always supported them in organizing it and this year came to play and celebrate with Renascer.

At dawn, the group also went to the sound of the violin and the players dressed as sailors to the towns of Furna, Lomba Tantum and Cachaço, offering happy holidays.

The festivities are not over on the island yet, as the groups celebrate again on Epiphany, with the same revelry as on New Year's Eve, but in some cases they point out that the Epiphany festivities tend to be stronger.

The little ones were given moments of fun on the bouncy castle and the children of the island, even those from the most distant areas, received toys, since the city council provided transport and every day the Eugénio Tavares square received children from a distant location .
