The meeting is an initiative of the Vitó Project in partnership with the non-governmental organization Biflores from Brava Island and will be financed by the Critical Ecosystem Partners Fund (CEPF) and will bring together several civil society organizations, government institutions and international partners.

The aim is to promote the conservation of flora in the country, said the executive director of the Vitó Project Association, Herculano Dinis, who highlighted the intention of the meeting to promote a week of exchange between organisations involved in plant conservation in Cape Verde.

The first national meeting will feature theoretical and practical activities on the island of Fogo and a field mission on the island of Brava and will feature the participation of organizations from several islands that work with plant conservation.

The meeting will have the collaboration of the National Institute for Agricultural Research and Development (INIDA) and the international presence of the Geneva Botanical Garden (Switzerland), in addition to representatives of the Taola+ Network.

“The idea is to strengthen the articulation between organizations, promoting a common work methodology for the conservation of flora and the development of strategic partnerships”, said Herculano Dinis.

According to the same source, one of the goals of the meeting is to increase collaboration between the various local conservation initiatives, which often still act individually, without a stronger link between them.

Through this forum it will be possible to present the work carried out by each organization, identify areas of collaboration and promote greater coordination in actions to preserve plant species in Cape Verde.

Herculano Dinis also highlighted the Vitó Project's commitment to conserving biodiversity, with an emphasis on the islands of Fogo and Brava and the Rombos Islets, priority areas for the organization's action.

"We want the work we are developing, in partnership with Biflores on Brava Island, to be better known and recognized, as it has generated good results in the preservation of local species", stated the association's executive director.

The event will be a unique opportunity to strengthen the network of organizations and increase collaboration between the various actors working on environmental conservation in Cape Verde.

The Vitó Project Association, with the support of CEPF and other partner institutions, continues to consolidate its commitment to environmental preservation and sustainable development of the islands of Fogo and Brava and the Ilhéus Rombos, and seeks to join forces in favor of a more sustainable future for the country.
