Fogo: Águabrava may take over management of urban solid waste – Alberto Nunes

The Intermunicipal Water Company (Águabrava) could take over the management of urban solid waste in the three municipalities on the island of Fogo, with the construction of a common sanitary landfill.
This possibility was accepted by the mayor of Santa Catarina do Fogo, Alberto Nunes, after a visit by the three mayors of the island, accompanied by the administrator/delegate of Águabrava, to a water company and another in the area of sanitation and treatment of solid waste in Portugal, within the framework of decentralized cooperation.
Alberto Nunes indicated that the visit and the work meetings were “important and allowed for an “exchange of experiences”.
“We have a common project to build a landfill for the island and the visit was to see the experience of the Portuguese company”, said Alberto Nunes, adding that in the coming months the three councils will work on building the landfill as space was located and there is financing from the United Nations System, in the amount of 90 thousand dollars, around 10 thousand contos.
“Everything is ready for the transfer so that the island has this health infrastructure that is much talked about but which never happened”, he added.
“Águabrava will take over this component and the one who will sign a protocol with the United Nations to manage the resources is this company”, said Alberto Nunes, adding that the mayors recently had a meeting and delegated this function to Águabrava to sign the protocol and start the construction of the landfill.
The mayor said that some measures have been taken in relation to this company, but that they will be announced by the administrator/delegate, as they are of a technical nature.
