The PAICV says it has data that guarantees that no new ships will arrive on the 15th of October, as the Minister of Maritime Transport would have announced.

This conclusion comes after a decentralized visit to the circle of São Vicente, namely to institutions linked to the sea, court and unions affiliated to the UNTC-CS.

After meetings with the administrator of CV Interilhas and with the Cape Verdean Association of Merchant Marine Shipowners (ACAMM), deputy João do Carmo declared that on October 15th, Cape Verdeans will be able to be sure that “ Cape Verde is facing a government that is not serious” and that is “playing with the people”.

“Each time we met with the merchant navy shipowners of São Vicente, we gained more conviction that the government's international compounding process was a flawed process, which clearly harmed the national shipowners and the entire population of Cape Verde” says the deputy.

In this sense, João do Carmo asks Cape Verdeans to stay alert in the coming days, as, according to him, the problems with maritime transport will persist and with signs of regression.

“Right now there is a priority for passenger transport. However, cargo transport remains far below what the specifications were. There are islands, such as Sal and São Nicolau, where goods are not being transported,” he guarantees.

For João do Carmo, Cape Verde would not be facing these problems if the concession were given to national shipowners, plus some financial resources.

The party is now waiting for the result of the commission of inquiry into the concession process to be presented, which it believes will contain evidence that things did not go well. Afterwards, he says, the Attorney General's Office itself will be able to act according to its competences.

During the decentralized journey, the PAICV met with different social and economic sectors in São Vicente and today it will be on the island of Santo Antão.
