The rector of Uni-CV concluded today a scheduled visit to the island of Fogo together with officials from the Higher Education Regulation Agency (ARES) to inspect the state of the facilities, namely the Integrated Resources Centre, where the administrative part will work, and the Maternal House where classes will take place.

According to him, during the visit to the facilities, the regulatory authority validated the spaces that will receive the first two courses, in the areas of agronomy and geology.

During his stay on the island of Fogo, the rector of Uni-CV signed protocols with the Padre Ottavio Fasano Foundation/Vinha Maria Chave and with the cooperative winery of Chã das Caldeiras in order to allow students to do practical internships that are of interest to the training and in its quality that essentially involves practical observation issues.

“We have other partners, at an international level, who will work with the University. The Padre Ottavio Fasano Foundation/Vinha Maria Chas has work done in the area of geology and with samples of interesting rocks that they will make available to the University of Cape Verde for practical classes”, said the dean.

The same source underlined that Uni-CV is open to working with all partners, local, national and international, who can provide support with the experience they have in different areas and be an added value for the courses to have quality.

“These are courses in the areas of agronomy and geology, but we plan to open the viticulture and enology course for the next academic year (2024/25). The conditions are created to move forward”, said Arlindo Barreto in statements to Inforpress.

The administrative part, the Integrated Resources Centre, and the facilities where classes will take place will be ready before the start of the academic year on October 2nd, said the same source.

The rector of Uni-CV added that the university opened pre-enrollment in order to get an idea of people's interest in training in these areas, since it needed accreditation from the Higher Education Regulation Agency to start enrolling, foreseeing that from the next week the entity will be able to accredit the courses and Uni-CV will proceed with their dissemination and registration.

For that person in charge, the question of creating the pole in the Fogo/Brava Region is not just for teaching, but also for research, remembering that in the areas of volcanology and agronomy, the island of Fogo has excellent conditions for carrying out studies and research that involve researchers and partners from the diaspora, showing confidence that there will be a strong development in the research area for the Fogo/Brava Region.

Arlindo Barreto also recalled that the project he presented during his candidacy made it clear that they intended to move from a university that was essentially based on teaching to a stronger commitment to research, stressing that now the university is opening up and is already working with projects interesting at the research level.

It should be recalled that for the academic year 2023/24, the center will start with courses in the areas of Geology with the areas of volcanology and risks and applied and environmental geology, and Agronomy with the areas of animal production and vegetable production, with the government and city councils in the region provide 40 scholarships for the two courses.
