Aldina Barros, fashion artist, speaks out about the devaluation of her work and criticism regarding the price from Cape Verdean clients
City of Pawtucket, January 15, 2025 (Bravanews) - Clothing artist Aldina Barros has taken to social media to vent her criticism and complaints from some of her clients, who have been insisting on asking for discounts and questioning the prices of her creations. According to the artist, many of these clients do not understand the value and effort behind each exclusive piece she produces.
Aldina explained that the art of creating clothing is not just manual labor, but involves a process of dedication, creativity and time, which makes her pieces unique and of high quality. “People have to understand that, to create an exclusive piece, there is a lot of work involved. From the concept, the choice of materials, the sewing and the personalization of each detail. It is not something simple, and all of this should be valued”, she commented.
The artist highlighted that when trying to justify her prices, she often comes across clients who compare her work to large-scale productions, which, according to her, do not have the same attention to detail or artistic character that she imprints on her pieces. "I'm not just selling clothes, I'm offering art, a unique and personalized product, and this has a value that goes beyond simple production," said Aldina.
She also called on the ethnic market to recognize the importance of supporting Cape Verdean art and creators, especially from Brava Island, by encouraging the appreciation of artisanal work and local productions. "It is essential that people realize that art needs to be valued, and that by supporting the work of local artists, they are, in a way, investing in the culture and development of the community itself."
Aldina Barros' outburst raises a reflection on the importance of respecting the value of artistic and creative work, in addition to raising awareness in society about the need to support and recognize local talents.
