Brava: Christmas party took place normally and without major incidents – authorities

The authorities in Brave today assured that the Christmas party took place within normal limits and "without any occurrence of highlights" on the 24th and 25th.

Speaking to Inforpress, the commander of the Police Station of the island, Higor Almeida guaranteed that during those two days, as well as in the others, his team complied with the operation plan, but no case of enhancement was registered.

Likewise, in contact with the doctor Júlio Barros, Brava's Health Officer, he also confirmed that they had not had any cases of enhancement as a result of the festive activities, stating that "everything went perfectly normally".

For his part, the mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, also made a "very positive" balance of the activities carried out and the harmony verified in these days among the residents.

The mayor stressed that, on the part of the municipality, they managed to organize a Christmas for the elderly, which involved around 70 elderly people from all parts of the island, this time in the town of Furna.

Also, a white night was held, on the initiative of two young women in partnership with the city council and on the afternoon of Wednesday, the 25th, the children found a pogo stick set up in Eugénio Tavares square, which according to information from the mayor was purchased by the municipality to “brighten up” the afternoon of the little ones who every year at the end of Christmas day gather in this place.

The bouncy castle was an attraction that led many children to abandon the toys they had brought from home to jump on the toy that is rare to find on the island.

Brava City Council is working to provide transport every day to pick up children from the most distant locations to play on the bounce house, as they don't have this facility like those in Nova Sintra.

And, to kick things off, it starts today with the children of Palhal, Pau and Fajã d´Água, in the coming days it will be the children of Mato, Mato Grande, João da Noli, Mato Grande, among others.

Another novelty that the mayor pointed out was the lighting of Eugénio Tavares square, made thanks to the support of a group of emigrants in the United States of America who collected lighting materials during the year and the city council arranged other necessary materials, thus lighting the square.

The lighting of the square was a reason for praise from the citizens who told Inforpress that it is the first time that the square was lit in this way, because last year the only lights that were seen in the streets were those of individual houses and the light from the Electra stations.
