Brava: Degraded building and earthquakes cause “panic and fear” in elementary school students and teachers
Students and teachers at Escola Básica de Nossa Senhora do Monte (EBNSM), in Brava, said today that they were experiencing days of “panic and fear” in the school with dilapidated structures, as the island has been shaking constantly.
Speaking to Inforpress, professor José Henrique Ramos highlighted that in recent weeks students and school staff have been in “constant panic” due to the earthquakes that have been happening in Brava, taking into account the degradation of the school establishment. , which has represented permanent “danger” for everyone.
“One room has already been closed and has already shown visible signs that it could collapse in the future. It is a very negative aspect for our educational establishment and our island, considering that we have a very dilapidated school”, he informed.
According to him, the entire educational community has been “worried and afraid”, since the earthquake has no time to happen and the school building may not be able to withstand so many tremors.
“Sometimes we are in the room with the students and, a few days ago, the phenomenon [seismic shocks] happened and there were moments of panic, there were even students who felt unwell”, he explained.
This professor called on the Government and all entities linked to education to pay more attention to the situation that EBNSM finds itself in, since the tremor has been happening frequently, putting the safety of everyone who studies and works in this area at risk. educational institution.
In turn, student Ivanilda Cardoso also said they were very scared because the school is very dilapidated and the shocks have been frequent.
“The latest earthquakes left some visible damage, taking into account that the walls of the school had already shown signs of being broken into and, therefore, a man came and used an iron to remove several pieces of concrete that were about to fall”, commented.
Ivanilda Cardoso expressed fear of being inside the classroom or school building, stating that the situation is “worrying”, as the school could collapse at any time.
“Although a room that is unable to receive students has already been closed, due to the degradation and danger it represents for us, the students and teachers, the school itself is at risk, due to the frequent earthquakes”, he concluded. .
