Brava: Drivers “outraged” by the poor condition of Cachaço’s roads
Drivers of 'hiaces' and private vehicles today expressed their “outrage” at the poor condition of the access road to the community of Cachaço, in Brava, and the mayor said he sympathized and supported the demand.
On a tour of the town of Cachaço, Inforpress spoke to some drivers of public and private transport vehicles, who say they are “annoyed” with the state of degradation of the roads, as the Brava City Council is aware of the situation that It has been getting worse every day and could get even “worse”.
According to Joaquim Gomes, a driver of a rental car, the road is in a “very bad” condition, which has been causing damage to drivers and vehicle owners, as vehicles are frequently damaged.
“I have already expressed this before with a post on social media and now I am here to appeal to those who have the right to resolve this embarrassment. The road is quickly wearing out of parts and causing damage, however, we pay taxes for road maintenance, so we call for the problem to be resolved as soon as possible”, he stated.
Daniel Cardoso, driver and resident of the town of Cachaço, also shares the same opinion and highlighted that the road has been “getting worse” and after the rains, day after day, several holes have appeared on the road.
“The solution is to drive cautiously and avoid potholes, so as not to harm the car or passengers,” he stressed.
In this sense, he informed that they had already made some complaints and said they would resolve them, but, however, they never did so.
For his part, the president of Brava City Council, Francisco Tavares, stated that he was in solidarity with the drivers and also said that he wanted to “add his voice” to this appeal, since, according to him, the road that gives access to the town de Cachaço is the responsibility of the company Estradas de Cabo Verde.
“The roads in Brava have been undergoing major improvements, however, this road in question has not yet reached its turn. We are talking about a project that falls within the range of National Roads, and, according to the information I have, a competition has already been launched where we have a winner who will maintain all the national roads on the island”, he informed.
In this situation, Francisco Tavares guaranteed that, in addition to the definitive resolution of the Fajã d'Água road, later this year, the city council will also reinforce its voice, along with the Cabo Verde Road, requesting a deeper intervention on the connection road , from Cruz in the Tomé Barras area to the entrance to the community of Cachaço.
“The road has been quite degraded and mainly because it is also a road where the quarry is located, so many trucks pass through, with a lot of weight, which has contributed to the degradation of the sidewalk, which dates back to colonial times”, he highlighted.
The mayor concluded, highlighting that the road is the responsibility of the company Estradas de Cabo Verde and that the city council only has to wait for the new company that won the competition to remodel the municipality's national roads, but called for “special” attention by part of those responsible.
