The mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, said today that, even though it is early, “various gains” are already visible on the island, after the implementation of the new alcohol law.

Francisco Tavares, who was speaking to Inforpress, regarding the alcohol law, in force for a month and a half, stressed that so far there have been no constraints with citizens and traders in relation to the new rules and that he has not even encountered people walking around with drinks alcoholics in the streets.

According to the mayor, this is already a positive fact both for the area of sanitation and for education.

Because, as he explained, normally those who walked around with bottles or other containers of alcoholic beverages did not bother to put them in containers, but rather in flower beds and anywhere on the streets, which today is no longer visible.

Notwithstanding sanitation, Francisco Tavares pointed out that when a child or adolescent came across individual people or even in groups walking through the streets with drinks in their hands, they might think that it was normal behavior and not observing such practices is already an “advantage ”.

The mayor also said that it is a law that the chamber considers to be “very important, because they have to assume that on the island there is an “above average” consumption of alcoholic beverages and even stressed that there are some cases of excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages and with all the consequences that arise afterwards.

However, he informed that the council had already decided for some time that there was a very large number of shops selling alcoholic beverages for the island's market, where what license for bars or any other trade that sells alcohol to retail, mainly, is very controlled and restricted.

He even showed his desire for a setback in this number.

With the implementation of measures to monitor and control the quality of drinks in commercial establishments, Francisco Tavares commented that there are sales yes, in suitable places and with “almost certainty” of quality drinks that are “better” for health.

And with that, he says he believes that there may be a decrease in alcohol consumption and clear family and personal expenses on alcohol consumption.
