Brava: Ex-emigrants scared by wave of violence and robberies on the island

As he told the press, he has a commercial establishment in the town of Mato, where he also lives and which has already been the target of two consecutive robberies and the last one took place this Wednesday, July 5th, the day he saw his own life in danger.

According to this former emigrant, he was surprised again by a criminal who, in addition to stealing money and a cell phone, attacked him with a baseball bat, leaving him unconscious and causing a wound on his face that required 10 stitches for his saturation.
“It is a regrettable situation, as I did not expect that it would come from outside, to be affronted in my land by thieves”, he vented, stressing that the monetary amount or material goods are not so relevant, but that he fears for his life that he saw in danger .
Faced with the frequent waves of robberies and violence that have taken place on the island, this victim says he is “a little disappointed” with the authorities, arguing that they should act differently, because the population is terrified due to this situation.
According to the same source, more vigilance should be carried out, especially at night, because as it is, residents do not feel any security and emigrants, no matter how much they have a feeling of patriotism, end up losing the friendship and love they have for the island.
Manuel Barbosa is another retired ex-emigrant who lives in Brava, where he runs a bar, and has been confronted with several robberies, both at his residence and at his establishment, not having been attacked once yet, but he has already found a bladed weapon that the miscreants left behind and clues that denounce that they are the same people.
As he said, on December 18, 2022, the criminals removed part of the roof and entered his establishment, located in Cova Rodela, taking some belongings and then on the 26th of the same month, he went to his residence in Cova de Joana the target of miscreants who ended up leaving a window open and two laptops behind the front door.
As early as January 2, 2023, he said, his bar was robbed again, from where they took almost everything, repeating this same situation in June, more precisely for the festivities of Santo António and São João Baptista, on the 13th and 24th June, and this weekend they attacked the place again.

For this pensioner, the situation is not going well at all, calling for more serious measures to be taken, because on the island there is no longer peace and no one feels safe anywhere, stressing that he had to put iron bars on all doors and windows to try some security, but this gives you an image of living in a prison.

He also highlighted that the perpetrators are carrying weapons, as the last time they robbed his establishment they left a bladed weapon at the scene, which shows that they are not afraid of any kind or fear of attacking, if necessary, alerting the population to stay aware.

In addition to these cases, the population of various locations in the parish of Nossa Senhora do Monte had already warned about this situation that has been experienced in recent times on the island, and it is not just in this parish, as in the city of Nova Sintra there have also been acts of robberies and violence.

For example, at dawn today, July 6th, they tried twice to rob the Enacol post on the island, but were surprised by the local guard.
