A 35-year-old man from Ilha Brava began today to be tried by the Judicial Court of the Comarca, accused of the crime of drug trafficking.

Official sources told Inforpress that the “conviction sentence” of the individual who had been decreed in preventive custody last February, was scheduled for the 30th of June.

In mid-February 2020, the commander of the Brava National Police station, Higor Almeida, informed Inforpress that his team seized 2.335 grams of “cannabis” during a routine mission, upon arrival on the ship Kriola, from Cabo Verde Fast Ferry, to Furna pier.

He added that the suspect had asked a driver to pick up the aforementioned suitcase and deliver it to Vila de Nova Sintra.

However, he added that the PN suspected the contents and carried out a search of the bag, ending up confirming the existence of the drug and when arriving in Vila there was a son of the suspect waiting for the driver to pick up the bag, and was then taken to the police station.

Higor Almeida stressed that at the time, in addition to several calls made in order to locate the suspect, he did not appear at the Police Station, but that they proceeded to deliver the drug to the Public Ministry to continue with the work.

During the course of the process, he was sentenced to preventive detention and was awaiting trial in the jail on the island of Fogo.
