Parents and guardians in the locality of Cachaço say they are “indignant and disgusted” with the situation of the functioning of the transport assigned to students in the 5th, 6th and 7th years who travel from the area to Nossa Senhora do Monte every day.

A group of parents contacted Inforpress, expressing their dissatisfaction, and Benvinda Pinto, spokesperson for the group, said that two years ago, the Brava school delegation promised exclusive transport for the group of students.

According to her, this promise came at the time of the change in the school system, with the implementation of new subjects, which forced these children to move from the area to study in a more distant one.

However, the spokeswoman said that the promise was not fulfilled and the situation has been getting worse year after year.

Benvinda Pinto said that children, who, according to the school timetable, enter the classrooms at 08:00 am, are obliged to get up at 05:20 am to catch the car that transports the high school students at six o'clock.

When they arrive at the place where they study, “a destitute place with no protection”, these children stay in the street from 06:30, until the entrance time to the classrooms, with no one to take care of them and when they leave, they are in the same situation waiting until the secondary ones leave Vila de Nova Sintra so they can go home.

"Many of these children leave home without eating and many parents are unable to give them money to eat properly at school", said an angry Benvinda Pinto, adding that this measure, in addition to contributing to health problems, is also contributing to the school failure of these students.

According to the same source, when these children leave home early, they arrive home around 1:30 pm and before school starts, they are already complaining of tiredness and without any desire to study.

This mother considers that her children are being treated like “animals”. And it is in this sense that the group appeals to the island's school delegation, the Government or whoever has the competence to solve this problem to do something.

“We do not ask that these children be removed from school in the area. We want them to learn and that's why we accept it. But we also demand that the necessary conditions be offered for their learning and performance”, said the mother, adding that now they are not asking but demanding “dignity” for their children when they are still children.

Contacted, Brava's education delegate, Orlando Burgo, said that a meeting was already scheduled with parents and guardians in this locality to "discuss and raise awareness" of the transport schedule, but it is the only car that will continue to do so. path.

According to the same, FICASE (Fundação Cabo-verdeana de Acção Social e Escolar) tried to form a partnership with the city council of the island in order to assume the transport for these children, but a consensus was not possible, hence, it will remain the only transport that it has had every year.
