The relatives of Brice Mike Ndjay, a 33-year-old who was attacked on the 4th of June and died in Fogo on the 14th, are asking for speed to resolve the case.
Speaking to Inforpress, Ana Miranda, the victim's sister, said that the family members are outraged by this situation, because until then the alleged aggressor is free and directing threats to the family members.
According to the same source, on Sunday, June 4th, around 11:00 pm, they were informed that the brother had been beaten and attacked with a knife, and was rescued, thus forwarded to the Brava Health Department, which in turn urgently transferred him to the Fogo e Brava Regional Hospital, taking into account the seriousness he was in.
The sister stressed that Mike, as he was affectionately called, had broken his skull, spine and thigh, but that he had also been hit in the lung with a white weapon.
“As soon as he arrived at Hospital do Fogo, the doctors informed him that the situation was complicated and he ended up dying on the 14th, but the alleged aggressor is still at large”, she said sadly and indignantly.
According to advanced information, he maintained that the alleged aggressor has already been presented to the Public Prosecutor's Office, but that the measure of coercion applied to him is the ban on leaving the island and the country.
In this sense, he asks “why is justice not working in this situation? While family members suffer from the loss of a loved one, the aggressor is on the loose”.
Another situation that showed a little indignation is with the release of the body so that they can pay their last respects to the brother, advancing that an autopsy was requested and the body is in a cold room in the municipality of Mosteiros.
“In addition to being dead, he is still in prison and the family members have nothing they can do”, he lamented, questioning whether the justice that works in that country and with some speed is only for cases of drugs and rape of minors, taking into account that the alleged aggressor makes publications on his Facebook page, threatens family members.
"Divine justice is certain, but if you don't hurry, we are willing to organize a demonstration and appeal to justice in any situation", he warned.
Inforpress contacted a judicial source, who said he understood the family's situation, confirming that the alleged aggressor has already been presented to the Public Ministry and applied as a coercive measure the ban on leaving the island and the country.
However, the same source stressed that in these cases, normally, the MP takes action again after receiving the medical report and, if it confirms that the cause of death was derived from the aggression or consequence of the stabbing, as the MP has to substantiate his indictment.
