Brava: Fajã d´Água road cut since January due to landslide reopened

The car connection to the locality of Fajã d´Água has already been resumed for the relief of this community that intends to “gradually” resume its activities, after two months of isolation.

The locality was completely isolated since the 21st of January, following a landslide that took part of the road with it, and soon afterwards, an alternative road was built for the circulation of people from that locality and for the few visitors who even after isolation they visited the area.

Speaking to Inforpress, Andreia Delgado, resident in Esparadinha, the furthest village from Fajã with access to the road, welcomed the reopening of the road section, stressing that the route was becoming a little difficult and exhausting for the children who were this route every day to attend classes in Cova Rodela or Nova Sintra.

Despite this fact, she says she was happy because it will also make life easier for residents in purchasing food products that, according to her, were only available in two stores and sold at a high price.

Maria Andrade, another resident of Fajã, highlighted that the situation that this community was experiencing was already visible to everyone, and today, “leaving Fajã by car is like winning back the world”.

However, he warned of the need to continue with the work, to ensure the improvement and safety of users.

Likewise, Joaquim de Pina, a resident and professional driver of this locality, stressed that during these two months the community faced several difficulties, they spent more money on everything that was necessary, because when they made a purchase, they rented a car to the place where there was car access. , then you would have to pay another 200 escudos for each load turn.

In his case, as a driver with a car stuck in the locality, he said that he went through several difficulties, because without work, in that locality the only source of income was the sea, which in those days was always turbulent.
With this recovery, he plans to continue the fight to make up for lost time.

For his part, Francisco Tavares, mayor of Brava, considered that the feeling is one of “great relief”.

The mayor said that during these two months he maintained direct contact with the population of Fajã d´Água, with the economic operators connected to this area, with people with buildings in the locality, and with people with stranded cars.

According to the mayor, the negative impact of the isolation was already entering a phase of almost “unsustainability” on the part of the operators who were seeing their livelihood and bread at risk, experiencing great constraints and difficulties.

“The access has already been made, it was necessary to wait this time to certify that there would not be another sequence of landslides in the place before placing the machine to try to do this work that involves its risks”, maintained Francisco Tavares l, reinforcing that in the meantime had the decision to try another alternative way, where the machine was for more than a month.

Meanwhile, he praised the quick intervention by Estradas de Cabo Verde and the Ministry of Infrastructure, which authorized and carried out work on the road to resume the connection, warning that people should be aware that there are still machines working on the site and that it is necessary to be very careful in terms of speed when entering and leaving the town.

He also informed that the works will continue with the construction of the protection wall, as well as the work on the floor after the conclusion of the wall, and continuity will be given to the studies and work of analysis of the possibility of an alternative route for the future.
