Angry: Student attacks colleague with a blade causing several injuries to the body
A student at Escola Secundária Eugénio Tavares (ESET), in Brava, attacked a classmate with a blade this Thursday, inside the school grounds, causing a 12-stitch wound.
According to witnesses, everything happened on Thursday morning, when a 10th year student approached her colleague, striking him with a blade, causing the male victim several injuries to his body.
According to the same source, the classmates had a disagreement days before, over a photo, and the aggressor called the mother who, in turn, went to the school to clash with the boy. However, this Thursday, the student took a blade to school and upon seeing the boy, struck the victim several times.
Speaking to Inforpress, the director of Escola Secundária Eugénio Tavares (ESET), David Pascoal, highlighted that the attacker has already been identified and properly classified.
In this situation, as the director explained, the internal process is already underway and the disciplinary council will act and punish the student depending on her act, however, the police are already aware of the matter and the student will face criminal charges.
He argued that it is necessary to remember that this school contains more than 10 percent (%) of the island's population, justifying that it is “normal” for conflicts to arise, including aggression between colleagues.
“It should be noted that we are the school with the least lack of discipline in Cape Verde, however, from time to time, less pleasant situations arise like what happened”, he highlighted.
According to this person in charge, the school already has several activities underway to raise awareness among students, namely lectures with the Cape Verdean Institute for Children and Adolescents (ICCA), National Police (PN), Public Ministry (MP), parents and guardians education, among others.
“We have to show our boys that school is a place of socialization and learning, but, however, it is necessary to comply with the rules so that they can live with each other in peace and quiet”, he stressed, adding that the school has a project called Escola Família, which serves to encourage parents to get to know more closely the environment their children live in on a daily basis.
David Pascoal called for the union of civil society to fight together to reduce cases of violence in schools, remembering that everyone educates, even if at different levels.
