Athletes from Ilha Brava leave for the National Swimming Championships on Ilha do Fogo
City of Nova Sintra, November 30, 2023 (Bravanews) - Today, the delegation of athletes from Brava island left for the neighboring island of Fogo, where they will participate for the first time in the National Swimming Championship, covering both the pool and the open sea. This is a historic occasion for the island, which is now represented nationally on the water sports scene.
In an exclusive interview, Desporto Brava had the opportunity to speak with coordinator and coach Hélder Brito, a fundamental figure in the development of local athletes. Brito highlighted the significant importance of this competition for Brava Island, which, despite its local potential, lacks organization and requires a collective effort to explore its true sporting potential.
"This competition is not only an opportunity for our athletes to showcase their skills, but also a platform to highlight the needs and opportunities for improvement in sport on the island," said Hélder Brito. He emphasized the urgent need to create a local sports association to consolidate efforts, promote the organization of sporting events and provide more consistent support to athletes.
Despite the organizational challenges, Brito expressed confidence in Bravi's athletes, many of whom have dedicated considerable time to training in preparation for this national championship. They are eager to compete and, above all, take Brava Island's pride and name with them to the national stage.
As the delegation moves to Fogo, the Braviense community eagerly awaits positive results and hopes that this event marks the beginning of an upward trajectory for sport on the island.
