Nuías Silva, re-elected in the elections of December 1st, officially assumed the presidency of the São Filipe council tonight with the commitment to develop the municipality and improve the quality of life of its residents.

The inauguration ceremony, which marks the beginning of the second term after a “historic victory” in the local elections held on 1 December, took place on Alameda de Cruz dos Passos and was witnessed, via the Zoom platform, by the Minister of Infrastructure, Spatial Planning and Housing, Eunice Silva.

In his speech, Nuias Silva highlighted the importance of the local elections for Cape Verde and emphasized the direct impact of municipal decisions on the lives of the population and promised to lead responsibly and seek to consolidate the changes initiated in recent years and accelerate new initiatives that meet the aspirations of the population of São Filipe.

Nuías Silva presented the pillars of the "Continuar São Filipe" project which, according to him, aims to position the municipality of São Filipe as a prominent regional capital in the southern region of Cape Verde, promoting the attraction of investments, especially from immigrants and foreign investors.

Priorities include completing ongoing works such as the 5 de Julho regional stadium, the sports pavilion, the Patim stadium, the modernization of the municipality and the creation of economic opportunities to reduce inequalities and social vulnerabilities.

"Our mission is to transform São Filipe into a municipality to visit, invest in, live in and love", stated the president, who therefore committed to working for better housing, health, education and training conditions, in addition to boosting strategic sectors such as agriculture, fishing and entrepreneurship.

Environmental and energy sustainability is also on the agenda, with energy transition projects, collection and treatment of solid waste and an increase in charging stations for electric vehicles.

In the cultural and touristic field, he highlighted the work carried out to recognize São Filipe as a World Heritage Site, the valorization of the historic center and the promotion of a robust cultural agenda for the coming years covering all sectors of culture such as the rehabilitation of the municipal museum and installation of the interpretation center, intervention in the Arrnand Montrond cultural center, without forgetting the traditional festivals.

Sport will be another highlight, with encouragement for sports such as football, horse riding, swimming and Paralympic sports, with the aim of transforming São Filipe into a municipality of champions and strengthening Fogo Island's brand as a world biosphere reserve.

Nuías Silva reaffirmed his commitment to dialogue and inclusion, ensuring openness to ideas from the opposition that could benefit the municipality and stressed that he will work with everyone to realize the dreams of the mayors, but also the dreams of the different localities that make up the municipality and its population.

With a mandate anchored in strategic and sustainable ambitions, Nuías Silva called on all residents to join forces in the challenge of designing São Filipe for the next 50 years.

"We are committed to economic, social and environmental development, in search of a prosperous future for all", he said, promising in this new cycle to reinforce São Filipe as an example of efficient municipal management, focused on innovation and the construction of a more developed and inclusive municipality.
