For the next few days, the largest opposition party promises to make public the name of its candidate for the municipality of Santa Catarina do Fogo, justified by the president, Rui Semedo, that it is a commitment between the parties for a presentation later, while For the Brava municipality, negotiations are still open.

Rui Semedo said that PAICV will enter with a list made up of 12 men and two women and with clear intentions of winning, for the first time, the local elections in Cape Verde.

At a press conference to present the candidates in the race for City Council in the next elections, the president of the Cape Verde African Independence Party (PAICV) revealed Elisa Pinheiro for Porto Novo, Hilário da Cruz for Paul, Maria Teresa da Luz for Ribeira Grande (Santo Antão), national deputy Hipólito Barreto in Tarrafal de São Nicolau and banker Nilton Duarte in Ribeira da Brava.

The architect António Duarte “Patcha” is the PAICV candidate for São Vicente and the sociologist José Paixão Ramos is running for the Chamber of Sal,

The candidate of the “Estrela Negra” party for the municipality of Boa Vista is the banker and current president Cláudio Mendonça, the national deputy Edson Alves will run for the municipality of Maio, the sociologist Francisco Carvalho was reappointed to run for the Municipal Council of Praia, just as President Isaias Varela is the bet for São Domingos, as is Mayor Nelson Moreira for Ribeira Grande de Santiago.

Euclides Cabral debuts as a candidate for the Municipal Council of São Lourenço dos Órgãos, João Alberto runs again, for the second time, for the municipality of São Salvador do Mundo, businessman Sílvio Tavares for the municipality of São Miguel.

National deputy Armindo Freitas is running for the municipality of Santa Catarina de Santiago, and for the municipality of Tarrafal the bet has once again fallen on the president of the municipality, José dos Reis, just as president Carlos Silva is running for his own succession in Santa Cruz.

For the island of Fogo, Nuaís Silva is the candidate for the Municipal Council of São Filipe, which is why he is running for a second term, as is Fábio Vieira, president of the Municipal Council of Mosteiros.

The candidates for the race for local councils in Santa Catarina do Fogo and Brava remain to be revealed.

Rui Semedo stated that “this is the most important election of all held in Cape Verde” and that the PAICV bet on a “winning team”, made up of militants and non-militants, friends of Cape Verde, committed to changing the country's course and capable to serve people.

He pointed out security, transport, employment, youth and democracy, and investments as some of the sectors that need clear changes, especially local ones, with a view to promoting change at a national level.
