The new Mayor of Brava, Amândio Brito, today made a commitment in Nova Sintra to lead the island towards a new era of progress, inclusion and sustainable development.

During his inauguration speech, Amândio Brito highlighted the responsibility of honoring the trust of the people of Brava and presented an “ambitious vision” for the next four years.

The mayor also highlighted that his management will be marked by transparency, dialogue and collaboration between the different bodies and political parties.

"What unites us is much greater than our differences," he said, calling for unity and joint work to achieve the goals set.

The president also reinforced the importance of involving the population and ensuring that everyone has a voice in the decision-making process.

Among the priorities announced, Amândio Brito highlighted the issue of transport, promising to work in partnership with the Government to increase the frequency and safety of sea and air connections.

The construction of a new health center and the strengthening of the medical evacuation system are also central commitments to improving access to health care on the island.

In the agricultural sector, the focus will be on water supply and support for farmers, aiming to make the island self-sufficient in agricultural and livestock production.

"Water will be an absolute priority", assured the mayor of the island of Flores, highlighting the positive impact of these measures on job creation and improving the living conditions of families in Brava.

Tourism was another highlight, with the president committing to value Brava's traditions, culture and natural resources, inserting the island into the national tourism market as a unique and competitive destination.

Furthermore, Amândio Brito intends to boost local entrepreneurship, supporting young and small business owners with incentives and technical training.

In the area of education, the new president announced investments in the modernization of schools and in technical and professional training, creating opportunities for young people from Brava.

Sport and leisure will also be priorities, with plans to revitalize sports infrastructure and promote events that integrate the community.

Throughout his speech, Amandio Brito recognized the work of his predecessor, Francisco Tavares, and committed to preserving and expanding the legacy he left behind.

"We recognize the efforts made to develop Brava and we reaffirm here that the progress that has already been achieved will be preserved and expanded for the benefit of the entire population of Brava", he stressed.

For her part, Ivone Cardoso, president of the Municipal Assembly of Brava, elected by the MpD list, said that she will carry out her role with all the zeal, dedication, care and impartiality that I have always had as a councilor.

“I have colleagues, experienced and valuable companions and I am sure that this four-year term will be a term of hard work, because we have a lot of work to do, but all with the main objective of developing our beloved Brava Island”, he stressed.
