Autárquicas'2024/Santa Catarina: Félix Cardoso denies withdrawing from his candidacy, which remains “firm and strong”

“I reconfirm that I am a candidate for the 2024 local elections. I have received invitations from people who live here [in Santa Catarina], natives of Santa Catarina, residents and also those in the diaspora and businesspeople to take up this candidacy in 2024”, he declared to Inforpress Félix Cardoso, who is running for president of the Santa Catarina chamber for the second time.

The candidacy, which according to the candidate, a lawyer by profession, like the 2020 local elections will maintain its independent profile, is prepared to assume the governance of Santa Catarina in 2024 and will focus on some fundamental axes.

In this regard, he mentioned parity democracy, youth, employment, professional training, reduction of extreme poverty, inclusive and sustainable development.

“Our candidacy will also assume effective leadership of the development process. Let's recover the importance and centrality of this municipality, because Santa Catarina in recent times has effectively lost the role and contribution it should make as a municipality that has and should assume the greatest role in the Santiago Norte region”, he added.

Félix Cardoso, who in the 2020 local elections ran as an independent candidate for the group “Santa Catarina Acima de Tudo – SAT”, having received close to two thousand votes and was elected councilor, insisted that the independent candidacy he is leading is “firm and strong” , and already has a campaign headquarters and team on the ground working.

Refusing to comment on the state of municipal governance, Cardoso, who recalled that as a councilor without portfolios he has participated in all city council meetings and has followed political life and governance in Santa Catarina, simply said that “the governance needs no comment”, and that at this moment, “there is no need to comment on it”.

Meanwhile, he promised to “later on” take stock of local governance at a press conference, which will also serve to publicly assume his candidacy and present the electoral program.

In Santa Catarina, the candidacy of Jacinto Horta is also known, who will head the list of the Movement for Democracy (MpD, power), of the current national deputy Armindo Freitas, for the Cape Verde African Independence Party (PAICV, opposition), who is also running for the second time, and university professor Aquilino Varela, who will lead the independent Citizen Initiative movement.
