BCV: PR defends review of the State's salary policy to avoid “glaring inconsistencies and injustices”
The President of the Republic defended the review of the State's salary policy to avoid “glaring inconsistencies and injustices” and to also avoid “putting into crisis” the entire merit system that should guide the functioning of the Government.
José Maria Neves put forward this suggestion at a press conference to talk about the 31st anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic, which was marked today, when he was asked to comment on the issue of the salary adjustment of the BCV governor and administrators in around 17 Percent (%).
“This is an administrative decision by the Government, a resolution by the Council of Ministers that does not even require approval by the President of the Republic”, explained the head of State, reaffirming that he will maintain the habit of “not commenting” on specific decisions of the Palácio da Várzea .
“But, what I must say is that in Cape Verde we have to revisit the State’s salary policy, to avoid inconsistencies and glaring injustices and also to not put the entire merit system that should guide the functioning of the Government into crisis”, he stated. .
José Maria Neves also added that it is necessary to revisit this salary policy, in order to find “a more appropriate salary policy” for the development of the country that everyone aspires to and equally “put on its feet” an administration based on meritocracy, thus avoiding “disparity” and put into crisis the “ideas of social justice” that we want to build in Cape Verde.
The Government justifies the 17% and 18% increases in the salaries of the governor and central bank administrators, respectively, with the need to correct internal imbalances.
