SANTA MARIA BEACH DEMOLITED

This Icelandair Boeing 757 has transported many Cape Verdeans since, in May 2019, it arrived in Cape Verde to operate for Cabo Verde Airlines, at the time the recently privatized TACV.

The name “Praia de Santa Maria”, honoring the famous beach on the island of Sal, was chosen by internet users through a public vote on Facebook and the branding colors should honor the “natural beauty and rhythm of Cape Verdean culture”.

According to photographs published on the social network “Praia de Santa Maria” it lost its beauty at the age of 30, leaving only a carcass. The plane, which since 2020 was “stored” in the United States, was apparently demolished in the plan to reduce Icelandair’s fleet.

The plane had been put up for sale by the Icelandic company along with the other two that had been in the service of Cabo Verde Airlines but apparently no buyer appeared.
