Bestfly/ SITTHUR: Domestic flight operator in Cape Verde and union in negotiations after strike notice
Bestfly, operator of domestic flights in Cape Verde, and union representatives are expected to meet at the beginning of next week for labor negotiations, following a strike notice published on Thursday.
“ We will be meeting next week. Our stance has always been open to dialogue ”, Américo Borges, general director of the airline, told Lusa today.
The Transport, Telecommunications, Hotel and Tourism Union (SITTHUR) initialed on Thursday a notice of strike from October 24th to 26th (an initial document announced October 18th and 19th) with five demands.
Pilots are asking for an update on salary and perks (such as food and fuel allowances), holiday pay, timely payment of allowances, reactivation of leave insurance and transport facilities.
The company's general director said that the statement of demands was delivered in September, after “ meetings with union representatives” that took place “in a cordial and pleasant manner” .
Bestfly responded on October 3rd with a list of proposals, open to negotiations, and the union confirmed today its availability for meetings next week, said Américo Borges.
Bestfly's general director reserved details about the labor proposals for the negotiating table.
Amílcar Neves, permanent secretary of SITTHUR, today confirmed to Lusa the scheduling of negotiations, reiterating “ openness to dialogue, despite the strike notice ”.
The shutdown will be a last resort, he noted.
The proposals presented by the company at the beginning of the month were not enough to convince the approximately 15 pilots, said the union leader, highlighting that “ everything will depend on what can be achieved ” next week.
