Brava: Approved budget and activity plan of the chamber with divergence between the two benches

The budget and activity plan for the year 2020 of the Municipality of Brava were approved in the ordinary session of the Municipal Assembly with eight votes in favour, from the MpD, and four against, from the PAICV.

The Movement for Democracy (MpD, in power) voted in favour, according to bench leader José João Delgado, as they are “essential” instruments for the year 2020 and for the city council.

According to him, the bench understood that activities such as the budget meet the wishes of the population in combating their concerns and also allow the city council team to achieve its objectives, which is to "raise" people's living standards and make that the municipality becomes “more infra-structured” and corresponds to the wishes of both the local population and those who visit the island

The African Independence Party of Cape Verde (PAICV, opposition) voted against, because, as leader Jorge Reverdes explained, the budget was “totally dependent” on the Government and a bank loan, which will total around 115 million escudos .

And his bench chose to go “against a dependency budget”.

Regarding the abstention regarding the plan of activities, he added that the plan repeats the same activities and the vision and mission of the chamber does not convince them.

In view of the data presented in the document, the bench leader said that the support that is sometimes directed or channeled to the population "has been done in a strategic way, more to one side of the population of the same party color".

The mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, for his part, made a “positive assessment” of the session, although he commented that it could go further, hoping that in the last year of the mandate there would be a “positive endorsement” of the bench of the opposition, but that did not happen.

According to the mayor, the PAICV voted against the budget, there was abstention in the activity plan, which demonstrates “a certain inconsistency”, since the budget is the translation of the activity plan.

He also pointed out that in the plan and budget the municipality presents the case for improving the employment situation of around 60 employees in the area of sanitation, various streets in almost all locations on the island, interventions in terms of sport.

In addition, interventions that will "directly" meet the need to create public employment in the face of the third year of bad agricultural year, but he commented that even so, the opposition bench voted against.

The same source added that the chamber already has "almost" the guarantee of financing a large part of these activities and investment projects, through the increase in the municipal financing fund, via funds for the Environment, Tourism, Roads, and Social Solidarity, and local resources.

The plan, he emphasized, emphasizes a "reinforcement" of decentralization and the search for partnerships with municipalities associated with the Brava council in Portugal and in the United States and other groups, such as the José Andrade Foundation, the Helath CV Project, doctors of St. Paul Medical Center and the Help Hospital of Brava.

The year 2020, according to Francisco Tavares, will be the year of elections, but also of “a lot of work”, listing the works on the road Nova Sintra to Nossa Senhora do Monte, rehabilitation of the main roads of the Historic Center of Nova Sintra, musealization of the House Museum Eugénio Tavares and interventions in the area of water desalination, in Furna, with works in progress, and in Esparadinha, a project that is already in its final phase.

The Municipal Assembly of Brava met in its third ordinary session this Saturday, 16th, in the hall of the city hall.
