Brava: Bons Amigos Association provides a “positive review” of the VIII mission to the island with more than 200 assistances
The veterinarian from the Bons Amigos Association, Lara Baptista, today made a positive assessment of the 8th castration campaign on Brava Island and highlighted that more than 200 visits were made for various procedures.
This person made this assessment in statements to Inforpress, at the end of the campaign that ran for five days on the island, explaining that they spent two days in Nova Sintra and Furna and one in Nossa Senhora do Monte.
During this mission, she revealed that they carried out around 135 castrations of dogs and cats, both males and females, and also around 160 dewormings, animals that, according to her, had already been castrated in previous campaigns or were very young at the time. to be castrated.
Therefore, the person responsible continued, highlighting that the animals that were not castrated were very young, but that, however, they were only dewormed, taking into account that there are many fleas, ticks, itching and some skin problems.
“Our objective is not only to reduce uncontrolled reproduction, but also to avoid public health problems, because there can always be a transfer of diseases, since we live in a society”, he explained.
In between, the person responsible continued, there was still time for awareness campaigns and door-to-door deworming actions, but she regretted that there was not enough time for this, taking into account that her team was small.
“What we also noticed this time is the increase in the cat population, especially in the localities of Lomba Tantum and Furna. We set traps to capture them and later sterilize them, and we captured several cats in different areas”, he highlighted.
However, he highlighted that there is still a lot of work to be done, explaining that this is ongoing work, also highlighting that the mission is carried out in conjunction with local partners, namely the Brava City Council, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA) and the Biflores Association.
“Before we come here, there has to be all the organizational work in which we communicate and they organize all the logistics, namely the duration of the campaign, materials that will be needed, among others, but in addition, we have the partnership of CV Interisland companies that offered us a round-trip sea trip”, he concluded.
