A group of young and old people reached out to the media today to express “dissatisfaction with the lack of information” from the Brava Funerary Association, which for decades has received quotas from members to purchase coffins, if necessary, however, this past year They stopped receiving the money and gave no explanation.

Associate Mariazinha Tavares said that since the beginning of the creation of the Brava Funerary Association, in the mid-90s, her father began to pay a monthly fee of 100 escudos or 1,200 escudos annually, so that when there was any eventuality, in this case , death within the family, they could have already secured a coffin that would help with expenses.

“My father was at the meeting where they decided to create the Brava Funeral Association, which aimed to help people with expenses when there were deaths in their families, so he started paying the fee that was determined and contributed until he passed away, however, my mother continued to pay until the last day of her life”, he highlighted

In this situation, she stated that it will be five years since her mother also passed away and since then she has taken on the responsibility of contributing to the quota, but highlighted that until 2022 the association was receiving the money.

However, now there is no one to receive the contribution for the year 2023 and no one even gives any explanation of what is happening.

“As is the habit, every beginning or end of the year I go to the village to pay all the annual expenses, however I went to the Red Cross to pay the fee, because the person who received the money worked in this institution, however, we went informed that you traveled to the United States and since then, no one has received the amount, much less informing us what is happening”, he highlighted.

“We asked the Red Cross institution for clarification so that they could at least inform us who we should pay the fee to now, they said that the institution has nothing to do with this matter and that the employee who received the money only worked in this institution and therefore I received the money at this facility,” he added.

Mariazinha Tavares also informed that there are several family members and friends who have also paid their monthly or preferably annual installments for more than three decades, and, therefore, demand an explanation or the whereabouts of the money paid.

In turn, Eva Correia Dias, also a member for over 40 years, shares the same opinion and asks for information, highlighting that if by chance there is no longer a funeral association, the right thing to do is to inform the members and give the whereabouts of the money that was paid. during all these years, and that “many still have not benefited from anything”.

According to her, she always paid her share, because the association was created to guarantee at least one coffin and help with expenses, in case there was a death in the family, but in the last year those responsible “disappeared” and there is no one to give us at least one explanation.

“We all have our receipts that prove the payment we made at the Red Cross and at first the person who received it was an employee called Lígia who has since retired and then another employee started receiving it, but they said she emigrated. Since then, no one has been receiving it and we want to know how our money ends up”, he concluded.

Inforpress sought clarification from the Red Cross, however, an employee said that the institution “has nothing to do with this association” and that it was a colleague of hers who received the money in the institution's building because she worked there, but that the same emigrated.

Inforpress also tried to locate and listen to a responsible member of the Brava Funeral Association, but this did not work.
