Brava: Assol Garcia says she is “grateful” for the nominations her work has had in recent days

The artist Assol Garcia told Inforpress today that she is grateful to see her work “Assol Garcia sings Djabraba, Nós Morna, Nós Raiz” highlighted without having to go through any competition.

The singer, who is in the United States of America, spoke about the highlight that the project she starred in had at the culture week in Portugal, by RTP Africa, and for being named the best morna by the “Red Carpet Award USA” last week .

According to her, among all the nominations, winning in the Best Morna category was a moment of “explosion and gratitude” as she says she carries in her soul and heart the name of the country for which she assumes “the mission of singing Cape Verde today and always ”.

“Those who know my work and those who follow my musical career already know that the musical genre with which I most identify is undoubtedly the morna”, said the artist, adding that she has always defended and has as her motto and mission “singing Cape Verde and promote Cape Verdean music to the four corners of the world”.

The artist stressed that participating in the project “Assol Garcia sings Djabraba, Nós Morna, Nós Raiz” was the “culmination of the realization” of a project that she had wanted for a long time, although in her perspective it was not only mornas da Brava, but the project “overcame the expectations".

This project led her to recognize that on Brava Island there are “beautiful” mornas, great poets and composers of national and international renown, citing as a great example the greatest poet, Eugénio Tavares.

Regarding the classification of Morna as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Assol Garcia considered it to be “a historic moment for Cape Verde and for Cape Verdean music and, certainly, the opportunity for the world to know even more about our culture and our country".
