The Biflores association today brought together some social and sports associations from the town of Furna for a cleaning action on the only more accessible sandy beach on the island, Cadjetinha beach.
Speaking to Inforpress, Dheeraj Jayant, director of the environmental NGO, explained that this activity is part of the celebration of World Oceans Day, marked on June 8, with the aim of raising awareness in the community to keep this beach clean and to know the importance of Same for nature.
According to the same source, this is the only more accessible sandy beach on Brava and the association decided to work together with some associations from the town of Furna, where the beach is located, to carry out a massive cleaning campaign not only where there is sand, but also on the slope in the middle of the acacias.
In fact, on the slope, it was clear that the intention was to eliminate the large amount of existing acacia in order to plant some endemic species, namely date palms, coconut trees and palm trees.
Regarding the introduction of these endemic species on the slope, he highlighted that it is still a project in the study phase, because it is necessary to analyze the issue of water, whether the plants can adapt to the location, among other aspects, in addition to being sure that the community will engage for the success of the project.
Regarding the beach itself, he said he hoped this would be the last cleaning campaign, counting on society's engagement to keep the beach clean and organized, but also showed that there are projects to support in this task.
Of the projects, he mentioned awareness-raising actions and a project on garbage and waste management and the division of responsibilities between the Municipality of Brava, the local community and conservation NGOs.
Another issue that was clear is the need for “greater engagement” on the part of the entities responsible for monitoring the beach in terms of sand collection.
The president of the Nô Pintcha club, Anildo Andrade, who participated in the activity, expressed his “satisfaction” with the initiative, stressing that this is the only accessible sandy beach on the island and that it should be in better condition, thus allowing people to enjoy the local.
“But that's not what we found. We found the place always dirty and with a lot of rubbish”, highlighted this leader, noting that the team uses the place to prepare its sports pre-season and has always been fighting to try to keep the beach clean.
In partnership with the Biflores association, Anildo Andrade guaranteed that the club will also work on raising the awareness of the community and other visitors to keep the beach clean, not only for the issue of bathing in the sea, but also for the turtles that there are some years there they spawned.
The participants suggested Praia de Paixe in the same location as another place that should receive actions of this type, but first it is necessary to sensitize the fishermen, as they are “the biggest polluters in the place” and when it comes to uniting for the cleanup “they are the ones that do not appear”.
Biflores is a biodiversity conservation association, based on Brava Island, whose purpose is the protection and conservation of marine and terrestrial ecosystems, their biodiversity and natural resources, as well as promoting the involvement and sustainable development of the community on the island. .
