The children of the Manuel Rodrigues Gomes School took to the streets of Nova Sintra today, cheering up the locals and ending the cycle of the Carnival parade for the little ones that started last Friday with the pre-school.
Speaking to Inforpress, the head of this school belonging to the Educational Complex of Nova Sintra, Josefina Vaz, explained that they did not present any specific theme, as it was an “improvised” parade, so that the day would not pass without a blank.
This school normally participated as one of the official groups in the island’s parades, but it has not been participating for some years now, and this year, according to the leader, it was also not possible taking into account the post-covid recovery.
According to Josefina Vaz, for the next year, she intends to meet with the school's teaching staff and other employees, but also with those in charge of education, in the sense of reviving the tradition and being one more official group in the island's parades, lamenting the fact that all older groups do not participate in Carnival this year.
However, he says he is aware that the recovery will not be easy, requiring the union and goodwill of all, especially people and organizations to sponsor and support the school because alone, it certainly will not succeed.
Therefore, it begins to appeal to everyone's commitment and interest, in the sense of organizing themselves and starting to encourage children for this “difficult task”, but which brings “brightness” to the island's Carnival.
In the parish of Nossa Senhora do Monte, in addition to the various areas that comprise it and with a good number of people, there is no official Carnival group and the children of Basic Education staged a small parade last Friday, 17th, to cheer up these streets.
In addition to these children, the “traditional masked people”, even if in a reduced number, began to take to the streets of the island a few Sundays ago, a trio tram was held and to continue the activities of Carnival on the island, there will be dances, and tomorrow, the 21st, there will be the official parade, this year with the participation of a single group, the Furna Carnival Group.
