In response to criticism from the PAICV regarding the unsustainability of the debt, with resources invested in something unknown to the general public, Tavares assured that the municipal administration is in full control of the financial situation. Despite the considerable amount of debt, the President claims that he has a solid plan for its payment. According to Tavares, the more than one thousand contos in monthly installments represent a manageable part of the budget, and the objective is to strictly comply with these obligations without compromising the quality of services offered to the population.

The municipal administration claims that the payment of the installments is within the budget forecasts and will not negatively affect the island's essential services. Tavares highlighted that the Council is implementing additional measures to improve financial efficiency and ensure transparency in the management of public resources.

According to the city council itself, in the justification note for the 2024 Budget, it states that the debt, accumulated over the last few years, is the result of a combination of investments and unforeseen expenses. The City Council is working to balance its finances and maintain the trust of the local community.

Brava citizens, the opposition and some economists contacted by Bravanews have expressed concerns about the financial situation and the need for more transparent management. The municipal administration has promised to provide reports and accounts at the next meeting of the Municipal Assembly, which has not yet been scheduled.

As Brava City Council continues to implement its restructuring plan, ongoing monitoring of the situation will be essential to ensure that debt does not compromise development and quality of life on the island.
