Law No. 134/IV/95 of 3 July, in its article 34, clearly establishes that the maintenance of primary schools is one of the responsibilities of the Municipal Councils, highlighting the need to ensure that the buildings are in adequate conditions to provide a safe and conducive environment for learning. However, some posts on social media and reports from people passing by indicate that the conditions of the central schools of Nova Sintra and Nossa Senhora do Monte are far from ideal, with problems ranging from deterioration of the infrastructure, lack of paint and leaks.

In Nova Sintra, the Central Elementary School has been the target of criticism due to the poor condition of its facilities. The worn walls, peeling paint and outdated electrical system are just some of the problems that have been pointed out by the public.

At Nossa Senhora do Monte, the situation is equally alarming. The school has been facing problems with leaks, lack of paint and inadequate ventilation systems. Many parents have reported that the conditions in the classrooms have been affecting students' performance and compromising the educational environment.

The situation has generated significant mobilization among community leaders and representatives of civil society. On social media, many people have made comments and expressed concerns, pressuring the City Council to take action.

In response to growing criticism and pressure from the community, the City Council announced that it had developed a project in this regard, but leaving the ball in the court of the local Education Delegation and the Ministry of Education, going against what the law requires.

However, many in the community, aware of what is written in the law, are demanding an immediate response from the local authorities. Community leaders and parents stress that the situation cannot wait any longer and that the recovery of schools must be an absolute priority to ensure a suitable and safe educational environment for children.

We are calling for a City Council committed to solving problems and working closely with the community to ensure that the needs of schools are met effectively and efficiently.
