Brava: Civil Protection again warns of the need to redouble care to prevent fires
The head of the municipal sector of Civil Protection and Firefighters, in Brava, warned today of the need to redouble care in order to avoid fires at this time when burning for land preparation is intensified.
António Lopes made this warning in statements to the press, showing concern, since in recent weeks there have already been six fires, attributed to the “lack of responsibility” on the part of farmers and personnel who burn pasture remains to clean the agricultural land.
He says he understands that it is a service that has to be done, but that it must be carried out in the best possible way, without jeopardizing and risking human lives and material goods.
In this sense, the official recommends and warns society not to let these types of actions harm the environment and also put the work of Civil Protection at risk.
Well, he stressed that everyone knows what conditions exist in Brava, both human and material, and if measures are not taken to help and collaborate, a situation may arise that “exceeds” the capacity of the municipal Civil Protection service.
As an alternative, instead of burning, the Civil Protection recommends that farmers clear the land and place the rest of the pasture on the edge of the land or make landfills in order to fertilize the land, and thus ensure more production.
Regarding the places where small fires have already occurred, he indicated Nova Sintra, Campo Baixo, Chã de Sousa, Mato, Cachaço, reinforcing that if it continues in this way there may be some fires that are difficult to control, so, he warned, “it is good to avoid in time before it's too late."
