The mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, considers the closing of the training course in Customer Service and in the Kitchen as being the “turn of the page” of professional training on the island.

According to the mayor, at the closing act held this Sunday, these two training actions are the "beginning of firm steps" towards the preparation of Brava as a tourist destination.

For this process and for these trainings to become a reality, he underlined that it took a long time to negotiate, involving several institutions, since the great difficulty in professional training has been moving to other islands, which entails “very high costs”.

“The completion of these two courses and with the other Level I in the area of Cuisine on the verge of completion, it is demonstrated that it is possible to carry out professional training on the island with the desired quality and the necessary certification”, considered the mayor.

Francisco Tavares argued that “these are firm steps” that must be taken to “dribble” the issue of training young people and, in the future, the issue of employment.

From now on, the same source stressed that professional training for the island will be given right here and only very technical training that requires laboratories that do not exist on the island will be carried out on other islands.

The director of the Center for Employment and Vocational Training in the Fogo e Brava region, António Cardoso, first demonstrated his “satisfaction and joy”, stressing that the “balance is extremely positive”.

As he explained, at the beginning there were several mishaps, where many did not believe that it would be possible to start and finish a training action on the island.

“We are finishing two training actions with almost 100 percent (%) of the beginners, where there was practically no dropout”, said the person in charge.

The closure of these two actions, according to the director, was a “culminator” of several partnerships, where the Tourism Fund financed these trainings in more than four thousand escudos, but also highlighted the involvement beyond the Employment Centre, the support they had from the local entities.

“There was participation and involvement of the city council, delegation of the Ministry of Education, of various institutions, economic operators and the population in general”, listed António Cardoso, stressing that today, the result of all this involvement was presented with the closure of training.

In mid-August, there will be the completion of another level qualification training and for the finished training, it advanced that the trainees will have eight months to do professional internships with income via the Professional Internship Program.

For the trainees, this was an opportunity that they embraced even with the difficulties and that they are now seeing the results.

In the course of Practices and Techniques of Service to the Public for Customers and Users, 18 students were trained and in the training course in Cooking and Pastry, 25 students were trained.
