Brava: Brava fishing community asks for a solution for transporting goods
The fishing community on Brava Island today expressed its “outrage” at the way the company CV Interilhas has been “dealing” with cargo transport on the Brava/Santiago route.
In an interview with the press, one of the fish traders Reinaldo Martins was “dissatisfied” with the company CV Interilhas and questioned “how it is possible for the ship to transport cargo vehicles from the island of Santiago to Fogo and not be able to bring the car to Brava?”
“The goods vehicles travel from the city of Praia to the island of Fogo and unload there, which then returns to the island of Santiago. We don't understand why at least one vehicle is not being sent to transport our fish, given that it is a commodity that loses quality day after day if it is not well maintained”, he asked.
The same source also added that traders prepare their goods and preserve them very well, however, on the day of the trip they are informed that the vehicle transporting the cargo to the other islands did not travel to Brava.
“This is not the first time this type of embarrassment has happened. The company has been worrying only about its profit, but they are not thinking about their customers and they don't even care about what traders go through to have their products at the port of Furna and when traveling they don't have a trip”, he highlighted.
Reinaldo Martins also highlighted that the majority of the population in the town of Furna lives from fishing and that with this problem fishermen and sellers are harmed and commerce is “paralyzed”.
For his part, trader João Domingos said that he was also harmed by this situation, because he went to buy the fish in the town of Lomba Tatum, to be able to transport them to the city of Praia, but was unable to ship them.
“We bring our fish to the pier with the intention of shipping it, as the merchandise is at the mercy of the sun and heat. However, at the time of the trip we were informed that it would not be possible to transport the loads, so we have to re-freeze the fish as they lose their quality”, he commented.
The fishing community is “dissatisfied” with the embarrassment they are being forced to go through, which is why they appeal to CV InterIlhas to resolve the problem as quickly as possible, as this trade is the bread and butter of many families in the municipality.
