Brava: Construction work on the church of Nossa Senhora do Monte resumed and parish priest asks for community involvement

The pastor of Ilha Brava, Friar José Garcia, announced that work on the parish church of Nossa Senhora do Monte has already started, and asks for the involvement of the entire community so that they do not stop again.

Speaking to Inforpress, this official stressed that the construction of this church has been a concern and the desire of all parish priests who have been to the island, but what has always been lacking is courage because there is no money to start the works.

According to this religious, this work is long awaited and a necessity because being in a place without a parish church is a big concern for those who are going to attend and for those who celebrate mass.

“Since I arrived in Brava in 2021, I have not found the parish church in the parish and since then we have been celebrating in a place that was made available, hoping to meet the minimum conditions to restart the works in terms of economy, personnel, documentation”, advanced the official, reinforcing that at this moment the works that will be carried out in phases have already started.

Asked about a date for the completion of these works, the parish priest informed that there is no forecast for completing the work because this is only possible when the budget is drawn up and when there is money available for it, and in this case there is no money, hence they are depend on community involvement.

In this first phase, he underlined that they are proceeding with the demolition in the parts where it is necessary, then build the church and in a second phase move to the parish residence, remembering that the time will be determined by society, as a “djunta-mon” is necessary so that the works do not stop again from now on, because since he arrived in Brava he found the church without a roof.

In this sense, he asks everyone who lives the life of faith, but also in community and that they never leave anyone alone, so that everyone can feel part of the church in Brava and, he added, to feel part of the church it is necessary to start to live one's own faith connected within the church.
