Project I of the Brava Employment and Employability Network, which aims to transform, preserve and market fish, intends to start production in March.
This information was provided to Inforpress by the coordinator of the local network, Mário Soares, at the end of a training course given to project beneficiaries, in the field of Financial Management and Product Marketing.
According to the same source, this is the first training action after the resumption of network activities and aims to make known these young people who, although they will work in handling and production, are equipped with minimal knowledge about revenues, expenses, investments and all the logistics that a transformation and commercialization company requires.
After this training, Mário Soares informed that another training action is scheduled for the end of February and beginning of March, with the main focus on engaging the beneficiaries and starting production in March.
In this training action, 16 young people benefiting from the project, young people and women heads of families from the three fishing communities of the island, namely, Furna, Fajã d´Água and Lomba Tantum.
Two young people from the Accounting course also joined the group, who will provide support and assistance to the cooperative in terms of management.
Regarding the start of production, this person in charge highlighted that the first production will be used for a moment of tasting, where they will invite all businessmen and entrepreneurs in the area of commerce, catering and tourism on the island in order to present them with the product and conquer them for future customers.
The aim is to produce for local consumption, but also for national and international marketing, in a project that at this stage counts on the engagement of the Municipality of Brava and funding from the Government of Cape Verde.
At this moment, Mário Soares advanced that what is expected from the beneficiaries is a total commitment and engagement, having already elected the members of the cooperative's administrative council.
According to the person in charge, the City Council will start to carry out periodic monitoring so that the transformation unit is what it was designed for.
This project, as he emphasised, will contribute to the reduction of the youth unemployment rate that affects the whole island, mainly in those areas, where the biggest source of income comes from fishing.
In turn, Sónia Baptista, newly elected president of the cooperative, said that all members are focused and expectations are varied.
Together, he underlined that they will work to place quality products on the market, but also fight to keep these jobs, because they have already participated in several training actions and at that moment, the desire is to put into practice everything they have learned and also to help other young people.
Incidentally, he made it clear that they not only want to work in product transformation, but also to work with young people and encourage them to train and look for a job in any area.
