Brava: Management of the Manuel Rodrigues School calls for greater participation of parents in educational life

The Manuel Gomes School celebrated today its 10th anniversary of registration, and during the commemorative activities, the coordinator asked parents and guardians to be more present and active.

David Pascoal, director of the Educational Complex of Nova Sintra, the complex where the school is located, said that in terms of the first cycle, this is the largest, welcoming about two hundred students annually, from the 1st to the 4th year, divided into eight classes and supported by eight teachers.

According to the person in charge, there was a time when the school was “a little bad” in terms of resources, but now it is “a little better”, due to some donations.

He informed that, recently, the teachers and the coordinator created an association together with some parents, in order to improve even more the situation of this educational establishment

Despite this union of the educational community, the official added that the management of the Complex is working towards providing it with a media library, a small library, as a way of stimulating more students and the participation of parents.

According to information provided by the island's school delegation, the name was given to the School in 1999, in honor of Professor Manuel Rodrigues Gomes, born on December 10, 1958 and died on August 15, 1997, at just 39 years old. .

Also according to these data, the teacher entered the educational system in 1976 and in 1978 was placed on Brava Island.

On the island, he was a teacher in the former preparatory cycle, pedagogical coordinator of physical education, regional president of the football association and correspondent for the Inforpress News Agency.

Today was celebrated with various activities, including recreational games, involving parents and children, dances, games, among others.

During the activities, the coordinator Josefina Vaz and her entire team reminded the parents present that the school is not built only with students and teachers, but with the presence of parents, making it increasingly "stronger" and transmitting a better concept of what education is.

In addition, he stressed that it makes no sense to celebrate the date if parents are not also interested in the origin and history of the patron of the school that welcomes their children in the early years of Basic Education.
