Brava: PAICV's CPR considers that the bank loan from the autarchy dictates the death of the municipality's management
The president of the Regional Political Commission (CPR) of the PAICV in Brava considered today that the bank loan that the Municipality of Brava will request from the bank will dictate the “death of the management of the municipality”.
The president of the Regional Political Commission (CPR) of the PAICV in Brava considered today that the bank loan that the Municipality of Brava will request from the bank will dictate the “death of the management of the municipality”.
At a press conference, Carlinhos Martins, stressed that this solution found by the municipality, managed by the Movement for Democracy (MpD) team, "will dictate the death of the management of the municipality of Brava", still accusing the team of also being "preparing up to get money to start the next electoral campaign, which will be in a year”.
According to this leader, this is the “worst decision” that the Municipal Assembly of Brava has ever taken for the future of the island, when in the first ordinary session of this year, held on June 20, 2023, it approved, although with votes against the PAICV, the authorization for the city council team to take out a bank loan in the amount of 120 million escudos, “an exorbitant amount for the reality of the municipality”.
At this time, the president of the CPR advanced that the municipality's debt is 89,791,610 escudos and of this amount, 79,575,244 escudos is the debt it owes to the bank, with a monthly commitment to pay the amount of 754,000 escudos.
However, he warned that “the municipality's debt with this new loan will be 120,000,000 escudos, starting to pay the amount of 808,000 escudos monthly in 240 installments, that is, for 20 years”.
As explained by this politician, it will be 20 years, which means that after this administration "spends the entire loan in a few months, no other local government that results from the next five elections will have room to make new loans", considering that the State of Cape Verde will neither assume this debt nor increase the fund for financing the municipality of Brava to cover expenses, reinforcing that annually, the council receives the amount of 77,667,838 escudos.
“This chamber demonstrates that it is not capable of mobilizing any resources outside the State, it goes to the banks to seek values for its current management, which obviously failed”, he considered, reinforcing that the PAICV in Brava brings this to the public, to demonstrate the “ seriousness of the situation” and expose the “failed management” of the current team.
Carlinhos Martins also says that the island is “forgotten by the rulers, and managed by incompetent politicians with no ideas to take advantage of its enormous potential”, and that if nothing is done, the island will continue at the tail of Cape Verde in terms of development.
Finally, the PAICV's CPR says it hopes that "something is done to prevent or limit incompetent rulers from taking advantage of this municipality's resources to carry out harmful management, squandering the public purse without showing results".
