The director of Complexo Educativo de Nova Sintra (CENS) today appealed to the union of civil society in order to fight for the reduction of cases of violence in schools, recalling that everyone educates, even if at different levels.
David Pascoal made this appeal in statements to the press, when approached about a case of violence and aggression that took place on Thursday, 03, in the vicinity of the school, involving three students, one of whom was transferred to the Agostinho Neto University Hospital, in the city of Praia.
According to this official, it is necessary to clarify that the situation does not sum up what coexistence on the school grounds is, in this case at Escola Secundária Eugénio Tavares (ESET) and headquarters of Group I.
He defended that it is necessary to remember that in this school there is more than 10 percent (%) of the island's population, thus justifying that it is normal for conflicts to arise, even reaching aggression between colleagues.
“In this particular case we are talking about students who had a disagreement in the vicinity of the school, and the Disciplinary Board has already met and decided what it found most convenient”, informed the director, highlighting the need to reinforce the appeal, mainly to parents and to all actors in civil society, because in the end, everyone educates, each at their own level.
According to the same source, violence in schools is not new, but it is always possible to do something to reduce it to an acceptable point.
As for the management of the CENS and the school, he added that he has been carrying out prevention work, working with those in charge of education, the National Police and psychologists, in order to raise awareness and show students that violence does not resolve misunderstandings, but that it also has acted punitively, explaining that “it is necessary to punish when it is necessary”, and all cases that have arisen so far have already been resolved.
David Pascoal recognized that the decisions did not please some, but made it clear that “the school and CENS management always acts in accordance with the internal regulations and, above all, with the student statute”.
Contacted, the father of the student who was attacked reported that he was in Cidade da Praia with his son and that he was hospitalized at the Agostinho Neto University Hospital, out of danger.
Likewise, he added that he is aware of the intricacies of the matter and the measures taken by the CENS, but that after his son's treatment, when he returns to the island, he will resort to other instances to put an end to this situation.
