The CENS director considered today that the results obtained in the first quarter of the 2022/23 academic year were “quite satisfactory”, but that they will work to improve even more.

Speaking to Inforpress, David Pascoal took stock of the results and the course of the quarter, considering that the quarter started with “serenity and tranquility” compared to the previous two years, when all sectors were affected by the covid-19 pandemic.

According to this director, at CENS it was possible, within what is the school calendar, to start classes with all the available teachers and with all the students in the classrooms, without any constraint.

As for the results, it announced that in the first cycle of Mandatory Basic Education there were results close to 92 percent (%) of positive grades, in the second cycle 81%, making a total of 85.4% positive in Basic Education and 89% in High school.

Despite the positive results, David Pascoal highlighted that these are global results, but it is clear that there are levels and disciplines with a greater number of difficulties and the focus in the coming quarters will be concentrated on the disciplines and levels of education that presented greater difficulties.

“I am not saying that no student will fail, because it is not very likely, but the team will try to overcome the percentage of negatives in order to have better results in the coming quarters”, underlined the director.

As for school transport, even though it was not his responsibility, he stressed that there were no cases of students who stopped attending classes due to lack of transport, emphasizing that transport on the island is completely free, supported by the Municipality of Brava and FICASE .

In relation to the school canteen, he highlighted that it works for Basic Education, but with some deficit due to the lack of some kind of food, but that it worked every school day.

In this regard, he assumed that it is necessary to improve the quality of meals, in order to provide students with the best possible meal, highlighting some partnerships that have allowed some schools to improve their meals.
