Brava: EBNSM promotes “Pink October” march with a focus on breast cancer awareness and prevention
The Escola Básica de Nossa Senhora do Monte (EBNSM) today promoted a “Pink October” march aimed at alerting and sensitizing civil society about the harm of the disease, preventing breast cancer and promoting a healthy life.
Speaking to Inforpress, the deputy director for Social Inclusion Affairs, Jocelina Semedo, explained that, in addition to the march, an open conversation was also held with students and parents in charge of education, an initiative that was in partnership with the Health Department da Brava and the Women's Ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
As he explained, the march, which took place under the motto “together we are stronger than a disease”, began in front of the school, traveling a little around the town of Nossa Senhora do Monte,
“Our main objective is to draw the attention of society in general to this disease which, unfortunately, is a reality in our daily lives and the school has an important role in this fight, which belongs to everyone”, he highlighted.
For his part, Brava's Health Delegate, Hélder Pires, who guided the open conversation, considers disease prevention and early diagnosis of the disease to be “extremely important”.
According to him, it was an opportunity to clarify people's doubts regarding this disease, since, even though a minimal percentage, men are subject to breast cancer.
“In this open conversation, practically only women participated, however it caught the attention of men, considering that they can also contract this disease. Men must also participate in this fight, because they have sisters, mothers, aunts, among others, and therefore they must always be well informed about the disease”, he appealed.
Hélder Pires stressed that the open conversation clarified the various risk factors that can lead to the development of breast cancer, the importance of self-examination and being alert to the signs.
“We also clarify what type of treatment is available in Cape Verde and what forms of screening we can carry out in the country”, he informed
