The head of Brava's Multidisciplinary Support for Inclusive Education (EMAEI) team, Alfredo Gomes, announced today that in the 2018/19 academic year, they analyzed 29 cases of children with special educational needs.
The head of Brava's Multidisciplinary Support for Inclusive Education (EMAEI) team, Alfredo Gomes, announced today that in the 2018/19 academic year, they analyzed 29 cases of children with special educational needs.
Alfredo Gomes presented these data to Inforpress, making a “positive assessment” of the past academic year, since, as he explained, two students who are monitored by his team completed the 12th year with some degree of success.
The official added that, in addition to the two students, EMAEI registered other cases of students who moved from class, highlighting a case of a child who moved to the 9th grade.
Considering the degree of difficulties and limitations of the student, he said that he found that the student “evolved significantly”.
Alfredo Gomes recalled that the academic year 18/19 was a year of signaling for Inclusive Education, a tool that, he stressed, allows teachers to have a set of information on the particularities of special children, not only at a cognitive level, but also on the family, among other aspects necessary for the child's learning process.
And, in this process, he pointed out that they managed to analyze 29 cases, where they registered 23 situations of students with permanent needs and six temporary ones.
Of the 29 cases, he stressed that there were six cases of abandonment, one death and one case of emigration.
At the moment, he emphasized that they have 17 permanent cases in the system and six temporary ones.
Based on the data, EMAEI produced 21 reports and 16 Individual Educational Plans (PEI's).
Alfredo Gomes explained that this “tool” allows teachers to plan their work, taking into account the strengths and limitations of children, as well as allowing teachers to prepare and use different strategies.
He added that the aim of the sign was "to try to make a fairer inclusion of children with special needs in the education system".
He also highlighted that in the last academic year, the EMAEI team on Brava participated in training actions that were later multiplied together with teachers and guardians, through various presentation, socialization and training sessions.
For the island, this official guaranteed that it was a “very positive” year, in relation to the other municipalities, because, in this matter, he stressed, the island “stands out a lot”, taking into account the number of students with special educational needs, noting that all those who were flagged already have their PEI's.
