Escola Secundária Eugénio Tavares (ESET) is holding a week dedicated to science, as a way to encourage and motivate students to approach this area.
Nilson Brás, professor of the various science disciplines, told Inforpress that this week does not even have a motto, noting that they are more concerned with encouraging and motivating students, in addition to awakening their passion for practice and science.
According to the professor, the week started last Monday, the 25th, and will run until the 29th of November.
In the beginning, he pointed out, they started with the presentation of videos and documentaries at certain specific times, but today they have advanced to the exhibition of laboratory materials, tools and instruments that they use, observation of plant and animal cells under the microscope, drawings and illustrations made by the students. .
It is in this way, exposing and demonstrating these materials and everyday tools, presentations of the internal structure of the earth and the solar system, that they intend to captivate the students, as Nilson Brás said.
On Friday, he pointed out, the day will be more practical, with activities such as cocktail of colors, explosion of colors, magic breath, DNA extraction, mini-volcanic eruption, among others.
According to him, here in the country there is a theoretical aspect in teaching that seems to be separated from the practical aspect. In other words, he explained, it is more theory than practice.
“Hence the need to start doing practical work and laboratory experiments to transmit the investigator spirit to students”, reinforced Nilson Brás.
When the students were asked about the importance of this week, student Ahsley Carvalho says she considers the week to be “very important”, both for students and teachers.
During the week, he continued, students get to know what teachers know or understand about science and ways of portraying it.
Erickson Silva, in addition to highlighting the importance of the week, mainly for the motivation of several students who attend school without interest, stressed that the week also presents them with an opportunity to see that school is not just about attending Portuguese or Mathematics classes , but also to experiment, interesting things like exhibitions of practical works, among others.
