The appeal was made at the opening of the V National Meeting of Councilors for Sports and Youth, which brings together today and Wednesday, in the city of Nova Sintra, the main actors and specialists in the area.

“Bringing to city councils, through the Municipal Financing Fund, only 10 percent (%) of what is wealth produced at national level will mean that there is little funding for the implementation of projects”, defended the mayor, pointing out that “ fairer would be 25%.

“This will also entail greater responsibilities for city councils in implementing project ideas and we would release central power from certain commitments and responsibilities in these areas”, he added.

Meanwhile, Francisco Tavares recalled that the sports area directly affects citizens, when there is financial capacity to carry out a set of actions.

“This is the Cape Verde we have, we must be able to mathematically find an equation that balances the will and resources available for the implementation of the projects”, stated the mayor of Brave.

In turn, the president of the Institute of Sports and Youth (IDJ), who officially opened the meeting, argued that it is necessary to draw up better strategies for the development of policies for these two sectors of governance.

For José Eduardo do Santos, the V National Meeting of Sports and Youth Councilors will serve to hear the strategies and policies of each of the municipalities and will also be an opportunity for the Government to present the projects.

During the meeting, participants will address important issues, highlighting the presentation of the technical regulation for the concession and construction of sports infrastructures, the new guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) for physical activity and the perspective of municipalities in relation to physical activity.

The results of the first General Sports Census will be presented at the event and participants will also have the opportunity to analyze and discuss the Regional and National Forums 2024, the Youth Association Financing Program (PROFAJ) and MobiJovem.
