Brava: Friar Matias challenges Christians to be better than in 2019

Friar Matias, president of today's Eucharistic celebration, in Nova Sintra, Brava, asked Christians to be better people in this 2020 than they were in 2019.

The priest made this appeal to Christians after the first mass of the year in which the Solemnity of Saint Mary, Mother of God and also World Day of Peace are celebrated.

According to Friar Matias, on the first day of the year the celebration is concentrated and for Christians it is a rich celebration.

“Nothing is better than starting the year with the invocation of the Mother who will certainly protect us during the year that now begins”, said Friar Matias.

“January 1st is the gateway, it comes from the word 'porta' in Latin, that is, the gateway to the new year, the gateway to each of us where we are called annually to renew our commitments to this world, our commitment to our brothers and it is World Day of Peace”, said the priest.

For this religious, “there is nothing better than, on the 1st of January, wishing for Peace”.

He also stressed that, for him, wishing peace on January 1st is the best message of Happy Holidays, because, he stressed, in Hebrew the word Shalom means peace, but peace not only in the sense of the absence of war and conflicts, but peace as harmony, prosperity, understanding between peoples and, above all, that peace that influences us all.

Because, the priest emphasized, “everyone knows that both peace and war, first of all, are born within each one of us”.

“If we are pacified, reconciled with God, with ourselves and with our brothers and sisters, we inevitably live in harmony and return to the lost paradise when God, man and nature lived in peace and in profound harmony”, said the priest, adding that for 2020, the only thing he asks of all Christians is to be better than in 2019.
