Brava Health Department and Fogo Blood Bank organize blood donation campaign

The Brava Health Department, in partnership with the Blood Bank of the Fogo/Brava Regional Hospital, has scheduled a blood donation campaign on the island of Brava for Friday, 9th and Saturday, 10th.

The information was provided today to Inforpress by the island's Health delegate, Hélder Pires, explaining that this campaign is part of the celebration of World Blood Donor Day, celebrated on June 14.

Despite the date, the delegate informed that the police station was already working in partnership with the pastor of the Adventist church for an action of the kind on the island, and, after scheduling the campaign, they already had a list of about 30 people who offered to participate in it.

However, he recalled that even if there is already a list with this number of possible donors, it is necessary for the entire island to participate, as these people still have to go through a screening process to be sure if they are in a position to donate blood or not. .

He recalled that whenever Brava patients come and need blood, they are attended to and rescued, thus demonstrating that the island also needs to collaborate in maintaining the blood stock in the laboratory.

As they are unable to carry out this collection and storage on Brava, the Blood Bank professionals will bring equipment and work on the process on Friday, 9th, from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm and on Saturday, 10th, from 8:00 to 11:30.

This official took the opportunity to announce the project to create a transfusion station in Brava, “possibly” by the end of the year, but reinforced that the blood reserve will mostly be in Fogo.

The doctor asks all Brave residents who meet the necessary requirements to be donors to participate in this campaign, as “it is necessary to support the issue of health, especially when it comes to an action to save lives”.
