Students from Escola Secundária Eugénio Tavares took to the streets of Nova Sintra, in Brava, today, with posters and messages addressed to the population as an alert for the preservation of children's rights.
This march was organized by the office of the Cape Verdean Institute for Children and Adolescents (ICCA), on the island in partnership with the Ministry of Education, through the Brava school delegation.
According to Edite Brito, psychologist and ICCA technician in Brava, the march was held to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the children's rights convention, but also to sensitize the population of Brava about their rights and duties.
Regarding cases of violation of these rights on the island, the technician advanced that there are cases of violation, but also informed that there are some that are complied with, taking into account the monthly statistics that she has seen in the office.
In order to reduce the cases that still exist, the psychologist starts from the opinion that with more awareness, more campaigns and marches, people will gradually raise awareness and cases of rape will decrease.
In the cabinet, he added that he has held many lectures, campaigns in schools together with children, parents and guardians and teachers, in order to try to overcome the difficulties that have arisen on the island.
The students who participated in the march, most have the notion of their rights and duties and what steps should be taken when they are violated.
As is the case of Erickson Delgado, who pointed out that during the march they spoke about many of the rights of children, but the ones that drew the most attention were in the case of child labor, violence and violation of children and adolescents.
According to him, this appeal is to encourage adults to preserve the rights of children and to report cases of violation, because, for Erickson, anyone who is present and does not report is also an aggressor.
Élida Monteiro, another student, called the population's attention not to violate the right of children's education, as she argues that "children's place is at school".
Regarding children whose rights are violated, the student calls on those who are aware of these cases to report, allowing these children to enjoy their rights as well as others.
