Francisco Tavares made this announcement in an interview with Inforpress, at the end of a meeting with the president of the INPS executive committee, Mário Rui Fernandes, where he was informed that the coverage rate on the island is around 44 percent (%) of the employed population.

According to the mayor, this is the president's first visit to the island, and the meeting took the opportunity to discuss issues that have to do with the relationship between the chamber and the INPS, informing that the municipality has almost 100% of employees already registered.

At this same meeting, he underlined that he received the message that INPS coverage in Brava is still well below the national average and 50%, since only 44% of the population is employed.

Hence, he showed that the municipality and the INPS will strengthen partnerships so that, together, they can pass on information so that, mainly, employees who are in the informal sector become aware of the possibilities of enrolling in the INPS and its advantages.

In addition to these issues, the mayor said that dialogue channels were open to resolve any issues, within the scope of interventions by the INPS and the city council.

In turn, Mário Fernandes, president of the INPS, stressed that this was a courtesy visit to the municipality of Brava to find out about the situation of the INPS on the island, and with a view to establishing a partnership with the local authority in order to increase the level of social protection coverage.

For this increase, he informed that the idea is to create an inclusion program, with a view to increasing the coverage rate, which is around 44% of the employed population.

Asked about the constant complaints from users regarding the waiting time for the transfer to carry out specialist consultations on the island of Fogo or in the city of Praia, this official highlighted that the first challenge for the INPS is to provide coverage so that it reaches 100% coverage of the employed population, and that the issue of health must always be seen with the Ministry of Health, which is responsible for the portfolio and who work together.

“The entire patient transfer folder, the entire policy is outlined with the Ministry of Health, although the INPS has a part of the system”, he explained, stressing that he is working with the Ministry and the Government to improve the process of transferring patients. patients and empower what healthcare infrastructure is today on Brava.
